Chris Brown settles long custody battle over daughter

Oklahoma music fans may be pleased to learn that singer Chris Brown has settled his lengthy child custody battle with his former girlfriend over the couple's 1-year-old daughter. The details of the agreement were released on Sept. 29.

According to media reports, the 26-year-old will spend 12 unsupervised days each month with his daughter. The girl's mother had requested supervised visits. The girl will also keep her father's last name.

Brown, who is a native of Virginia, will continue to pay $2,500 per month in child support. He has also agreed to pay $15,000 in back child support payments and money for his daughter's health insurance, medical bills, child care and schooling. The agreement is awaiting a judge's final approval.

Brown was ordered to take a drug test for the trial. The test screened positive for codeine and marijuana, but he has prescriptions for both. However, the "Forever" singer's legal battles are not over. He was recently denied a visa to tour Australia due to his history of violent altercations. In response, he took to Twitter to announce he is willing "to raise awareness about domestic violence" if he is allowed to enter the country.

Child custody disputes can be emotional, complex and protracted. Oklahoma residents facing a child custody negotiation may benefit by retaining an attorney. After carefully reviewing the specifics of the case, legal counsel could work to arrange a child custody agreement that is in the best interests of the child. An attorney could also provide essential guidance to those dealing with visitation rights, relocation problems or child custody modification issues.
